Resolved Question: Does Poverty hold people back or do People hold on to Poverty?
oh..I know poverty my friend, I know it well. I called home from 1979-1981 the back seat of a Chevy Nova. I was thrown out at 17 years old by an abusive alcoholic father. I pumped gas 60 hours a week for $2.10 per hour and went to school with no help. I took showers at Winton Woods camp grounds for .25 cents and ate cold food from cans. I never knew a Christmas morning with a family, I wore the same clothes everyday, I never received a birthday gift until I was 22 years old and I never had health insurance until I was 25 years old.
And I believed I was the luckiest man on earth to have those things!
I remember reading my high school diploma in the street light by myself......I made it!!!!
It NEVER occurred to me that I should complain or the government owed me anything...I was too busy working, living and loving.
I cleaned windows door to door, that led to starting a janitorial business. I married and had 3 children, I sold that cleaning business in 1985 for 70K and starting an advertising business that I run to this day. I have 12 full time and 4 part-time employees.
I own my own home (PAID FOR), 5 Bdrm, 4 baths on 10 acres with a fishing lake. I can drive any car I want and my children have never known a day without total love and devotion. Each received a college education from myself and wife and have zero college loans, the last will graduate next spring (2009).
BTW...that abusive alcoholic father...he now lives down the hall in my house, forgiveness and love won out....he's my dad and I love him more than words could express!
I have PAID others people medical, I have given back 100000X times more than I was given, I have paid for other peoples education

I didn't have children until I could afford to provide for them...in other words I made a CHOICE to NOt do that.
